FACTORS AFFECTING PRODUCTION OF BIOGAS FROM ORGANIC SOLID WASTE VIA ANAEROBIC DIGESTION PROCESS: A REVIEW
Keywords:
Biogas, Organic solid waste, anaerobic digestionAbstract
Solid waste can be the source of renewable energy for local use provided that it is subjected to an effective digestion process to produce biogas by utilizing the organic fraction of the solid waste. In Malaysia, rapid development of various industries has generated a significant amount of solid waste which mainly are composed of organic matter. Environmental issues start to arise when these wastes are not properly disposed and manage. Researchers have focused on utilizing these solid waste as feedstock to the anaerobic digester in order to curb with this problem. However, utilizing solid waste into anaerobic digestion is not as easy as it may seem. There are several factors and parameters that need to be taken into account such as but not limited to temperature, pH, organic loading rate (OLR) and retention time. In this review paper, the parameters known to affect the biogas yield from organic solid waste were presented.
