Author's Guidelines

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
* The submission has neither been previously published nor sent to other journals for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
* The submission file is in Microsoft Word.
* The text is single-spaced, uses a 12-point font, employs italics rather than underlining (except with URL addresses), and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
* The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal, at Author's Guidelines.

Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

Manuscripts should be submitted online to the Editor-in-Chief. Contributions should be in English or Bahasa Malaysia.  Authors may use British or American English, as long as the choice is consistent across the entire manuscript. Manuscripts in Bahasa Malaysia should be accompanied by a title and an abstract in English.  All references must be in the Roman alphabet.

The manuscript, including the abstract, references, tables, figures and captions, should be clearly typewritten, double-spaced, and on one side only, on US Letter or A-4-sized paper with ample margins. Each page of the manuscript should be numbered at the top. All submissions must be made through the online OJS system of the journal.

The manuscript should consist of the following sections:

  • Title
  • Abstract (300 words or less)
  • Keywords (3 to 5)
  • Introduction
  • Materials and Methods
  • Results and Discussion
  • Conclusions
  • Acknowledgements
  • Authors' contributions statement
  • Conflict of Interest
  • Data Availability
  • Article Processing Charge:  RM/USD 0.00

Tables and figures should be numbered in the order of appearance in the text. Each table and each figure should occupy a separate page in a form ready for reproduction and they should be large enough for reduction to a minimum of 50% of their original size.

This journal uses the Vancouver reference format starting January 2025.  References should be numbered in square brackets, e.g. [1], [2,3] in the order of citation. The examples below show how references should be formatted.

Review Process

Following submission, the manuscript undergoes an initial editorial assessment conducted by the editor-in-chief or one of the editorial board members. This stage involves verification of the manuscript’s suitability in terms of scope, compliance with formatting requirements, originality through plagiarism checks, and baseline standards of clarity and quality. Manuscripts that do not fulfill these criteria may be declined at this stage. Manuscripts deemed suitable progress to the external review stage using the single-blind review, where the editor identifies and invites at least two expert reviewers outside the editorial office with relevant subject expertise in solid state science and technology.

During the review phase, the manuscripts are evaluated for their originality, methodological soundness, theoretical or practical contribution to the field, and overall quality of presentation. The reviewers provide written reports including the strengths and weaknesses of the manuscript and make recommendations, typically falling into the categories of acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection. The editor subsequently uses these reports to reach a decision regarding the manuscript.

If revisions are requested, anonymized reviewer feedback is communicated to the authors, who are expected to revise the manuscript accordingly and submit a detailed response to the reviewers’ comments. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for re-evaluation, particularly when substantive changes are required. Once reviewers and the editor are satisfied with the revisions, a final editorial decision is rendered.

Manuscripts submitted by members of the editorial board will be assigned to a different editor who is not associated with the work, ensuring independence in the decision-making process. These manuscripts will undergo the same rigorous single-blind peer review procedure as all other submissions.
