Abstract

Solid waste can be the source of renewable energy for local use provided that it is subjected to an effective digestion process to produce biogas by utilizing the organic fraction of the solid waste. In Malaysia, rapid development of canned fruits industry has generated a significant amount of solid waste. Environmental issue start to arise when these waste is not properly dispose and manage. Researchers have focused on utilizing this solid waste as feedstock to anaerobic digester in order to curb this problem. However, utilizing solid waste into anaerobic digestion is not as easy as it may seem. There are several factors and parameters that need to be taken into account such as temperature, pH, organic loading rate (OLR) and etc. In this review paper, the parameters known to affecting the biogas yield from organic solid waste was presented.
