Abstract

The secondary effect of hydroquinone as oxygen scavenger on the corrosion inhibition behaviour of pyrrole and pyridine in static 3.5 wt% NaCl solution was investigated using Linear Polarization Resistance Method (LPRM).Experimental results found that the inhibition effect of pyrrole and pyridine increased with the increase of hydroquinone concentration. The inhibition efficiency was found to be improved by about 70% after addition of hydroquinone into saline solution containing 100 ppm each of pyrrole and pyridine. The addition of hydroquinone eliminated dissolved oxygen molecules which took part in cathodic reaction and hence reducing the corrosion rate of steel when immersed in the salt water.
