Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Preparing the Manuscript

Manuscripts should be submitted online to the Editor in Chief. Contributions should be in English or Bahasa Malaysia.  Authors may use British or American English, as long as the choice is consistent across the entire manuscript. Manuscripts in Bahasa Malaysia should be accompanied by an abstract in English.  All references must be in the Roman alphabet.

The manuscript, including the abstract, references, tables, figures and captions, should be clearly typewritten, double-spaced with ample margins. Each page of the manuscript should be numbered at the top. All submissions must be made through the online OJS system of the journal. The manuscript is normally not more than 3000 words, excluding references.

The manuscript should consist of the following sections:

  • Title
  • Abstract (250 words or less)
  • Keywords (3 to 5)
  • Introduction
  • Methods
  • Results and Discussion
  • Conclusions
  • Acknowledgements
  • Authors' contribution statement
  • Conflict of Interest
  • Data Availability
  • Article Processing Charge:  RM/USD 0.00

Tables and figures should be numbered in the order of appearance in the text. Each table and each figure should occupy a separate page in a form ready for reproduction and they should be large enough for reduction to a minimum of 50% of their original size.

Review Process

Following submission, the manuscript undergoes an initial editorial assessment conducted by the editor-in-chief or one of the editorial board members. This stage involves verification of the manuscript’s suitability in terms of scope, compliance with formatting requirements, originality through plagiarism checks, and baseline standards of clarity and quality. Manuscripts that do not fulfil these criteria may be declined at this stage. Manuscripts deemed suitable progress to the external review stage using the single-blind review, where the editor identifies and invites at least two expert reviewers outside the editorial office with relevant subject expertise in solid state science and technology.
During the review phase, the manuscripts are evaluated for their originality, methodological soundness, theoretical or practical contribution to the field, and overall quality of presentation. The reviewers provide written reports including the strengths and weaknesses of the manuscript and make recommendations, typically falling into the categories of acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection. The editor subsequently uses these reports to reach a decision regarding the manuscript.
If revisions are requested, anonymized reviewer feedback is communicated to the authors, who are expected to revise the manuscript accordingly and submit a detailed response to the reviewers’ comments. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for re-evaluation, particularly when substantive changes are required. Once reviewers and the editor are satisfied with the revisions, a final editorial decision is rendered.
Manuscripts submitted by members of the editorial board will be assigned to a different editor who is not associated with the work, ensuring independence in the decision-making process. These manuscripts will undergo the same rigorous single-blind peer review procedure as all other submissions.

Articles

A communication article reports new and original findings of immediate significance to the field. It is typically shorter than a full research article (usually not more than 3000 words excluding references) and focuses on the timely dissemination of key results rather than exhaustive experimental details. Communication Articles should present novel data, methods, or applications in a clear and concise manner, highlighting their importance and potential impact. While brief, they are subject to the same standards of peer review as full articles to ensure scientific rigor, originality, and relevance.
